Prof Aaron Astor on the next offensive moves in Ukraine

A nice thread on where the UAF goes next and the Ukraine way of war by an American professor who specializes in US Civil War history:

Medium thread.

Ukraine troops have entered Lyman!

Fighting continues. There are also reports of fighting at the town of Kreminna to the east, that was to have been the base of the next Russian line of defense after fleeing Lyman.

Lyman was a part of Russia for approximately 20 hours.

It appears Russians tried to flee in the last hours. Judging by video I've seen not all escaped.

President Zelenskyy honors the families of the fallen.

The text of Putler's speech today, if you want to bother

80% has nothing to do with Ukraine. A fair portion could have been spoken by a Maga type politician.

The US has supplied Ukraine with M30A1 shells!

Thomas Theiner, aka The HIMARs Prophet, reported on this development this morning:

Why is this significant? If you watch the following video watch the shell explode a bit above the target point of impact:

Meaning this is the perfect weapon to attack deeply entrenched infantry like in the Donbas and Kherson. 100000 tungsten steel fragments explode just above the heads of Russian veterans and raw recruits alike

This may be over sooner than the experts think.

Putin's speech today. Worth a read. He pretty much declared war on the West.

Medium thread.

From the NY Times:

Speaking to hundreds of Russian lawmakers and governors in a grand Kremlin hall, Mr. Putin said that the residents of the four regions — which are still partially controlled by Ukrainian forces — would become Russia’s citizens “forever.” He then held a signing ceremony with the Russian-installed heads of those four regions to start the official annexation process, before clasping hands with them and chanting “Russia! Russia!”

Even by Mr. Putin’s increasingly confrontational standards, it was an extraordinary speech, mixing riffs against Western attitudes on gender identity with an appeal to the world to see Russia as the leader of an uprising against American power.

“Not only do Western elites deny national sovereignty and international law,” he said in the 37-minute address. “Their hegemony has a pronounced character of totalitarianism, despotism and apartheid.

A few excerpts from Reuters:

Ukraine Ministry of Defense: The encirclement of the City of Lyman is Complete

Several thousand russian troops were in the area. As we speak the rashists are attempting to flee the city by motor transport via the town of Zarichne to the west. More news to follow.

I think it unlikely this is agreed to. I expect the Russian column will be attacked near Zarichne.

Where russian air force?
