Kyrie Irving's new Chinese shoe company is linked to human rights abuses, U.S. Congress warns league

Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving signed a new shoe deal with a Chinese apparel company earlier this year, which marked his first such sneaker partnership since his contract with Nike ended amid his controversies in New York.

That deal also made Irving the chief creative officer at ANTA, a Chinese apparel giant worth more than $30 billion.

According to a new Rolling Stone article, however, ANTA has been directly linked to “crimes against humanity” and a “genocide” by the Chinese government when it comes to forced labor by Uyghur Muslims — and the United States government is warning the NBA about it.

A letter from the U.S. Congress sent to NBA commissioner Adam Silver that was made public earlier this month warned that ANTA and other apparel firms in China “publicly embrace the use of supply chains linked to forced labor that helps fund the genocide committed in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.” A letter sent to the National Basketball Players Association specifically mentioned Irving’s deal with ANTA.

McCarthy's last-ditch plan to keep the government open collapses, making a shutdown almost certain

Source: AP via AOL News

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's last-ditch plan to keep the federal government temporarily open collapsed in dramatic fashion Friday as a robust faction of hard-right holdouts rejected the package, making a shutdown almost certain.

McCarthy’s right-flank Republicans refused to support the bill despite its steep spending cuts of nearly 30% to many agencies and severe border security provisions, calling it insufficient.

The White House and Democrats rejected the Republican approach as too extreme. The vote was 198-232, with 21 hard-right Republicans voting to sink the package. The Democrats voted against it.

The bill’s complete failure a day before Saturday’s deadline to fund the government leaves few options to prevent a shutdown that will furlough federal workers, keep the military working without pay and disrupt programs and services for millions of Americans.

So someone in a facebook group I'm in posts "Jesus is coming soon."

He got angry when I said "tell him to pull out if he isn't wearing a condom."

Another guy posted "he's been coming for 2500 years. Get over it." I replied: "Wow, that is one epic money shot."

Ramaswamy says he wants to cut 1M civilian federal employees

Source: The Hill

GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy vowed to cut 1 million civilian federal employees from the government if elected to the White House next year.

In interviews with Axios and Semafor, Ramaswamy said he wanted to make drastic cuts to the federal government. He listed the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Department of Education, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the IRS, the Commerce Department and the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Services as potential subjects for the cuts.

The tech entrepreneur told Axios he wants to cut the federal civil workforce, which comprises 2.2 million people, by 75 percent after four years. He added he wants to see a 50 percent reduction by the end of his first year.

“Keep in mind that 30 percent of these employees are eligible for retirement in the next five-year period,” Ramaswamy said. “So it is substantial — no doubt about it — but it’s not as crazy as it sounds.”

Loudspeaker message outside NYC migrant shelter warns new arrivals they are 'not safe here'

A New Yorker upset that the city has been housing homeless migrants on his block has set up a loudspeaker to deliver an unwelcoming message to his new neighbors: "Immigrants are not safe here.”

The message, recorded in six languages, blares all day from a loudspeaker on Scott Herkert's well-groomed front lawn on Staten Island, exhorting migrants to “go back” to another part of the city because the community doesn’t want them. It urges people brought to a temporary shelter inside a long-vacant Roman Catholic high school not to get off the bus. The message also claims the building has rats and cockroaches.

It is one of several ways some people have let shelter residents know they are not welcome. Hundreds of protesters have also held a large rally outside the former school, urging the city to house migrants elsewhere.

The women and families placed by the city inside the former Saint John Villa Academy have heard the message loud and clear.

White NIMBY asshole.

9th Circuit rules California ban on marketing guns to minors is probably unconstitutional

Source: LA Times

California's law banning the marketing of firearms to minors is probably unconstitutional under the 1st Amendment, a federal appellate court ruled Wednesday.

Writing for a unanimous three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, Circuit Judge Kenneth K. Lee wrote that while the ban may be intended to diminish gun violence, the "First Amendment demands more than good intentions and wishful thinking to warrant the government’s muzzling of speech."

California allows minors to use guns under adult supervision for hunting and other activities, Lee wrote, and the state "cannot straitjacket the First Amendment by, on the one hand, allowing minors to possess and use firearms and then, on the other hand, banning truthful advertisements about that lawful use of firearms."

The ruling reverses a lower court decision that went against several gun groups and denied their request for a pause on the law's enforcement while they sue over its legitimacy. The case has now been sent back down to the lower court for further proceedings. It marks a major victory for gun clubs that work with kids and which had argued that the ban — under Assembly Bill 2571, signed into law in 2022 — prevented them from attracting young members and teaching them how to safely operate firearms.

So, let me get this straight. . .you can't sell the gun to the kid. But you can fill their head with pro-gun propaganda so when they turn 18, they run right out and buy one.

Why not do that with gambling, smoking, and drinking too? Let's market those things to children too.

Christ, I am so sick of these gunners.

I am going to Orlando for a film festival. I am selected to be a part of it. I am Jewish

Should I be nervous? I wear my Star of David proudly around my neck.

My entire name is Jewish so I cannot hide it even if I wanted to hide it.

Should I be nervous after what just happened in Orlando with "the Jews will get the rope" and "the Jews won't replace us?"

Fifth inmate dead in five weeks at troubled Georgia jail being probed by feds

One inmate has died and “multiple” others are injured in a stabbing incident Thursday at Fulton County Jail, which means an incarcerated person has died every week for the last five weeks at the Atlanta facility currently under federal investigation.

The fatal stabbing Thursday is the ninth death at the jail so far this year, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office communications director Natalie Ammons told USA TODAY.

No other details were released on the active investigation, and an exact number of people injured in the stabbing was not yet available.

The Fulton County Jail is where former President Donald Trump and 18 others indicted along with him surrendered last week for booking on charges related to an alleged illegal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election in Georgia.

Don't read the comments. They are blaming Biden, the DOJ, Fani Willis, Democrats, even the inmates themselves, for these miserable conditions.

Right Wing turds really are bottom feeding.
