Source: ABC KATU 2
PORTLAND, Ore. A man who said he witnessed a police shooting in Lents Park on Friday said he had spoken to the man hours before Portland Police officers got to the scene.
Police said around 9:30 a.m., a 911 caller said a man was in the park with a weapon. Officers responded to the scene and confronted him.
"He seemed real cool. He didnt seem disoriented. He wasnt saying anything crazy. He just seemed like a guy down on his luck," said Hernandez.
Hernandez said the man did have a gun on his chest when they spoke earlier Friday morning, but he did not see a weapon on the man when officers arrived. He said the man was sleeping in a tent near the baseball field at Lents Park, but seemed calm. However, Hernandez said the man's attitude changed when police got there.

Brave Cops Fight Breast Cancer By Arresting People Using Pink Handcuffs
https://jezebel.com/brave-cops-fight-breast-cancer-by-arresting-people-usin-1846689764As it does every year, breast cancer awareness month starts in October. But officers at the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department are getting a head start on the pink parade by using pink handcuffs, pink badges, and other pink uniform accessories touh, remind the people that they are arresting to get screened for breast cancer. I wish that I was making this up.
Alex Villanueva, an actual sheriff in Los Angeles, tweeted about the pink initiative on Wednesday and included a photo of himself and two other officers holding their new pink cuffs. Sadly, their guns will not also be pink.
But will their Tazers be Pink?
Possibly not the best day to start this campaign.
What Dog Grooming/ Hate Crime nightmare is this?

BBC exec says Idris Elba's 'Luther' isn't Black enough to be real
The BBCs diversity chief Miranda Wayland says Luther the broadcasters hit crime series starring Idris Elba isnt authentic when it comes to storytelling surrounding its Black lead.
Elbas DCI John Luther doesnt have any Black friends, he doesnt eat any Caribbean food, this doesnt feel authentic, she says.
https://etcanada.com/news/768680/idris-elbas-luther-isnt-authentic-enough-according-to-bbcs-diversity-chief-he-doesnt-have-any-black-friends/
I am glad to see we are finally calling out people who claim to be black like Idris Elba (Who's parents aren't even from America) taking roles that clearly don't show a proper black experience. I hope the BBC diversity director works with screenwriters to interject proper black behaviors in the characters moving forward and maybe replace Mr. Elba who was born in tony London and whose parents are from Sierra Leone and Ghana with an actor with a proper black background.

Hawaiian shirts are returning - but 'people want to think twice', says expert
Sometimes the Guardian... well just has to Guardian... I swear some days it seems like the Onion has embedded one of its reporters over there.
https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2021/apr/12/hawaiian-shirts-fashion-trend-expert
The return of the Hawaiian shirt has been celebrated in the style press, as celebrities including Bill Murray, Rihanna and Sophie Turner have been seen to wear them.
But according to Zara Anishanslin, a fellow at the Davis Center for Historical Studies at Princeton, people should think twice before wearing the garments.
They are the fashion equivalent of a plantation wedding, said Anishanslin. They could be seen as fashionable embodiments of the history of American colonization, imperialism and racism against Hawaiis indigenous inhabitants. People might want to think twice about whether the look is worth the weight of its associative past.
Hawaiian shirts have also been co-opted by the Boogaloo movement, white supremacists who advocate war against the federal government.
I don't even know where to begin.
Beach Photos Give People the Wrong Idea
When articles about pandemic risk come with images of beachgoers, readers draw incorrect conclusions about how the coronavirus spreads.

Why publications keep using these photos is hard to pinpoint. In a health crisis, many people may feel provoked by the sight of others cavorting in the suneven though one of the best ways to avoid COVID-19, which spreads easiest when individuals inhale particles exhaled by others, is to avoid public indoor spaces in favor of outdoor spaces. Or perhaps beach pictures, which have a somewhat aspirational quality and typically feature attractive people wearing bathing suits, just draw lots of readers.
Regardless, our research indicates that these news articles with beach photos actually leave some readers with a false sense of which activities are riskiest.
This has been a pet peeve of mine for a while now, along with the endless cleaning and the panic when two fully vaccinated people have lunch together.
Neat Article about how everyone who wants a vaccine can get one 16 and up
https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2021/04/05/live-updates-from-floridas-first-day-of-open-vaccine-eligibility-in-tampa-bay/You know we focus on the negative. But in reality, this is pretty amazing. Everyone I know has had (or is scheduled this week) for their first jab, at least. This is an amazing success considering a few months ago the idea of vaccinating everyone was so daunting as to be the talk of science fiction.
This isn't just about government, charity or private business. This is about Americans coming together helping each other, acting like adults and getting things done. Honestly, we need more of this in our media and fewer divisions and chicken littles scoring imaginary online points.
Most Americans are capable adults who do good and care about their fellow man. You wouldn't know it at a glance at our media who focus on the outliers and narcissists in our society.
I am doing the tourist thing for a day in New York in late June with my niece.
I see that Broadway is still closed and I haven't lived in New York since Dinkins was mayor, so I am at a bit of a loss.
Obviously Lunch will be at the Times Square Olive Garden, which serves the finest Italian food in the five boroughs. But outside of that does anyone have any good dinner ideas. We both have had our shots and are not looking to be outside where we could be caught up in demonstration.
In addition are the usual tourist traps (Rainbow Room, museums, main public library) still open and if they are they basically hassle free?
So I need some only in New York tourist traps and a good restaurant for dinner (Chinatown preferred). Money is not an issue in particular,
Florida Hotel Guests Kicked Out, Staff Fired Hours After Business Sold
Florida hotel kicked out nearly 100 guests and fired staff just hours after it learned the business had been sold, forcing a number of disgruntled customers onto the street.
Champions World Resort in Kissimmee, Florida, abruptly shut down on Thursday after it learned that it had been sold to new owners.

This is insane. I cannot believe this could be legal in any way.
