More Police or No....the Downtown LA Shooting reignites debate

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-05-15/grand-central-market-shooting-rekindles-debate-policing-downtown-la

In a city budget hearing Friday, Previsich and a downtown restaurant owner called on the city to assign more mental health professionals to assist drug-addicted and homeless people, but also for additional police foot and bicycle patrols, arguing that they would be an effective deterrent against crime.

“We need a response, and we need it now,” Previsich said.

Snip
But calls for more police walking the streets came amid pleas by other city residents and activists to steer city resources away from police, and toward more parks, youth, mental health and other community services for underserved Black and Latino neighborhoods. They say the police department has been egregiously overfunded compared to other services.

“What’s going to keep the community safe is investment in the communities, not LAPD and not in the police state,” said Ni, an activist with Stop LAPD Spying! who only gave her first name.

More at the link.

It's a fair question. Would more police patrols have stopped this shooting? Or would more community investment have prevented the circumstances that proceeded the shooting from having occurred in the first place?

I think its a mix of both. Use officers already on patrol in a different manner (more walking, biking patrols) while increasing community investments.

(Not to mention enforcement of gun laws)

What are your thoughts?

DOW down 1100 as of now.

This is probably harebrained conspiracy type stuff...

BUT...I'll say it anyways.

Are large funds managed by the uber wealthy, selling off and capitalizing profits from the 1.5 year growth we've had, to intentionally tank the market?

It's a win win for them, right?

They get their money from the sale of profitable stock, plus commissions on those sales. The market tanks, talking heads begin screeching about the economy, takes focus off reproductive choice and illegitimate SCOTUS decision...Blame POTUS for economy etc etc...

Then they buy back their stocks at a discount... lather, rinse, repeat?

Or I am just utterly paranoid?
