"Profiles in Ignorance: How America's politicians got dumb and dumber," by Andy Borowitz

If you're worried that things seem crazier now than anytime before, satirist Andy Borowitz agrees, and provides a record of the truly stupid, unbelievable dim-witted, completely ridiculous stuff American politicians have said and done since about the 1960s, when R. Reagan ushered in "moronic in America". This book is snicker-out-loud funny. And, as Borowitz writes "...if someday alien scientists are picking through the rubble of our fallen civilization and happen upon a tattered copy of this book, maybe it'll help them piece together what went wrong."

In the first stage, "Ridicule", dumb politicians had to pretend to be smart. In the second stage, Acceptance, dumb politicians felt free to seem dumb. We have the misfortune of living in the Third Stage of Ignorance--Celebration. After recounting the years of US political descent into mostly GOP idiocracy, Borowitz reminds us that to save our democracy we to get involved locally, and avoid "political hobbyism." Donating to campaigns is important, but to save our democracy in the "Age of Ignorance" we need to stay in the fight and do the hard work, like on the ground deep canvassing, and flooding the zone with votes.

"Astrid" available on some PBS channels. Autistic heroine.

Astrid is a French series about a brilliant young woman with autism, who works with another woman, a police detective, to solve crimes in present day Paris. Dialogue is in French, but the subtitles are well done, not distracting. Very honest portrayal of the challenges and strengths of one individual on the spectrum, and intriguing crime drama.

The Praying Lady strikes again.

The woman who attends every Sarasota Co. FL school board meeting, and signs up to speak during public comments, "prayed" the audience right out of the room--yes, the audience was ejected during public comments after she spoke. Why?--because some people groaned audibly when Praying Lady (PL) prayed that the board member who is gay would "turn from his wicked ways."

And, unlike the Proud Moms for Bigotry gals who have been disruptive during public comments they disagree with, we, the liberal woke leftist heathen commies, peacefully vacated the room when asked. We then stood in the lobby and listened to the rest of the public speakers. We also plotted our next conspiracy to indoctrinate innocent school children and spread our Marxist ideology throughout--no, wait, that part didn't happen. Then we went back in and were nicey-nice for the rest of the meeting.

Talk me down, please.

I'm considering wearing a Satanic Temple t-shirt to our local school board meeting. That, or take a collapsible colander and pirate eye-patch (Flying Spaghetti Monster) and put them on during the public comments. Why? Because Praying Lady, a Moms for Liberty (gag--the misuse of that word!) continues to spew a prayer, almost a sermon, when it's her turn to talk at the podium.

Moms for Bigotry started right here in Sarasota, FL, and the Proud Boys Ladies Auxiliary is vengeful, like their demi-god DeathSentence the Tallahassee Tyrant. One Bigot Mom continues to attack the sole left-leaning member of school board, personally and abusively, for being gay during her comments--every damn meeting. They are the stormtroopers for the education privatization conservative donor class who are trying to privatize public education, public hospitals, prisons, you name it--but they believe they're doing the dirty work so god can takeover our secular institutions and turn US into theocracy--like the Founders never intended, btw.

Phew! OK, helps to vent here.

Oh, forgot to add--during the public comments a lbgtq person/ally spoke about the fear and hatred promoted by DeSadist causing families of non-cis-gendered to feel like they aren't wanted in FL and should move out. A Moms for Bigotry seated behind me muttered, "Good. Leave."

So hard to continue fighting here. Again, helps to vent here--I know DUers get it.
