Our overheating world is likely to break a key temperature limit for the first time over the next few years, scientists predict.
Researchers say there's now a 66% chance we will pass the 1.5C global warming threshold between now and 2027.
The chances are rising due to emissions from human activities plus the El Niño weather event expected this summer.
If the world passes the limit, scientists stress the breach, while worrying, will likely be temporary.

I applied to vote absentee today
Since the radio said early voting for the primaries starts next week, I applied to vote absentee.
Nice and bright and early, since last time I left it late, my ballot never arrived and I had to get two pollworkers dragged up to the car to take my vote. NOT again.
(That's Virginia state primaries, NOT to be mistaken for next year's ones.)
Even DC's WTOP will be covering the firings at 1415 EDT
I think they said someone from WaPO will be on.
The Guardian is featuring both the Carlson and Lemon firings

Watch out for Thrift Savings Plan underreporting of distributions!
My mother has required minimum distribution from her TSP.
I thought the annual TSP statement was light on distributions, so I took a closer look- and discovered it only covered the period from 26 May until year-end! The TSP person said it was because computer systems had been changed.
I got stymied trying to get full-year data from both TSP and the credit union, since I'm not the account holder.
Fortunately, I found a TSP deposit statement for one month in 2022, so I can estimate the total distribution for 2022.
BEWARE if you or loved ones are relying on an "annual statement" from the TSP to calculate what to report on tax returns!

If a family member suddenly is sick and acts strange
Insist they get towed to the hospital.
On Sunday, after breakfast, someone suddenly felt lightheaded, could not get up on the bed, insisted on getting on the floor, then couldn't get to the bathroom in time.
Did I mention the heaves and vomiting?
After some of the mess was cleaned up, there was an alternating insistence on being helped to the living room, then the bathroom, then repeat, insisting on assistance with backside-down movement.
Eventually the person wedged themselves into the bathroom, kept insisting on assistance to sit up ((straining my back and wrist)) ((and an argument for more than one towel)).
Insisting on no medic help.
Finally, I refused to do any more that evening.
5 am, rinse and repeat.
Finally, acceptance that I could NOT do heavy lifting and so I called our area's finest, who managed to do close-quarters extrication.
Scans at the hospital showed brain bleeding, probably from an earlier fall. The person is now in the ICU.
Please keep this in mind as a possibility.
(NOT how I had planned to spend the last warmer day in a while...))
