I don't know Mr. Avenatti, but I have great respect for him. (I don't know Tom Arnold, have no opinion of him, and am not using him as a source in any way.) But there are other important people speaking with Cohen.

Two important factors per timing: (a) Cohen has to solidify a defense team, and (b) he hasn't been charged yet. He'll need to have that team in place, of course. And then, even if he has yet to be charged, that team will try to deal with Team Mueller and the SDNY. And it is possible, even likely, that the NYSAG's office will be in close contact with the feds.

Mr. Avenatti is correct that this is a warning -- perhaps a last warning -- to Trump. Yet, at this point, the Trump legal team has told Trump that he has two options, both horrible for himself: help Cohen (perhaps even pardon him), and deal with the overwhelming fallout, or avoid Cohen, and deal with the overwhelming fallout.

Let us pray that the president has the wisdom to make the right choice. Both are, of course, fatal to his presidency.
