(16,371 posts)You are, of course, correct about its current state. What I have been saying is that the early group of DUers who first posted on JPR were self isolated, which made them vulnerable to propaganda -- first on a very sophisticated level, then rapidly becoming increasingly crude. By the time of the 2016 election, the trolling was at the pizzagate level of insanity.
I'm not talking about anything after winter 2016, when the attacks on DU from both Hillary and Bernie sides hit a level of toxicity that many old timers on both sides were banned. Each side was convinced that the other side hated and despised their candidate. That drove many Bernie supporters at DU away -- to the brand new JPR site, set up by DUers and named for a DUer of blessed memory, the late Jackpine Radical.
Because of the mass movement, there was a high level of trust at first -- everyone knew everyone else because -- again at first -- everyone there came from DU. That level of trust made it easy for the odd troll (at first) and a few apparent sleeper agents, to insert sophisticated, seemingly documented anti-Hillary propaganda, and have much of it accepted. People were led down a path very few of them would have taken if they weren't isolated at a site where the human propensity to believe negative stories about their tribe's (or sub-tribe's) opponent(s) could so easily take hold.
That's my last attempt to make my opinion clear.
