Sadly, it isn't just men - especially middle-aged and older white men (and some men of color as well) - who resent successful women whether they're politicians or working professionals. It no doubt is more prevalent among Baby Boomesr and older men, because they would have been raised during the era of Father Knows Best, Leave It to Beaver, mid-century attitudes about the "Man's Place" as opposed to the "Women's Place" (which preferably would be parked at home, a baby on her hip and broom in the other hand, who knows that it's "her role" to service her husband and keep her mouth shut). Ah, the good old days!
As for women resenting women who happen to be prominent, psychologically a lot of people regardless of their gender just fundamentally resent anyone who is more successful or prominent because it makes them feel smaller and more inconsequential. It's basically just a sense of aggrieved jealousy.
