4. The Republican party has no where left to go.

They cannot retreat back into decency because that would be an admission that they have been playing this very sick and cynical game (that we all know they are) in order to retain power. It would be a sign of weakness for them and they cannot afford to do that. Their only real options are to "retire" and just stay quiet and keep a very low profile, or just keep riding this runaway train until it rambles into the the end of the line.
