What I'm wondering is could he have misinterpreted the confession process and thought that once he confessed, he was free of whatever he confessed and couldn't be blamed. It was erased from his slate? Never happened?

After seeing the hurt and misery in his wife's eyes, tonight, I hope she sues for divorce and finds someone who will treat her the way she should be treated. She looks miserable.
