But either way, please quit pushing the lie that this was a high school thing and thus unimportant.

When this photo was taken, this adult man (yes - adult man) had:

1) Graduated from high school

2) Attended college

3) Graduated from college

4) Went to medical school and was in his final year of medical school

5) Was about to enter the Army as an officer (later that year)

He was not a child at this time. He was an educated adult male months away from being a doctor and an officer in the military.

It is not a childhood photo. It is not a teenage decision.
