What service qualified him as a hero? Joining the military? Not in my book, killing innocent Asians doesn't qualify as a hero (unless one was drafted or joined up to avoid the draft), if that is what you mean.

Now, John Kerry who came home and spoke up about what we were doing in Vietnam and carried that on as Secretary of State -- that's a Hero.
