He could have.

There is indeed a humanitarian crisis on the boarder. Yes, caused by republicans. But those kids did need more resources thrown their way. What they really need is to be reunited with their families and never separated in the first place. But we have exactly no power to make that happen.

The republicans would have been content to go on recess with nothing to help the situation. Their base does not care.

Sometimes there is no good option and you have to choose the least bad.

Purist have the freedom to operate in the black and white of a world made up mostly of grey.
