8. No consequences - who do we blame?

This is true. Unfortunately what we are seeing is that American democracy like many other Western democracies, carries the seeds of its own demise within it.

It was always a risk from Day 1 - we assumed that we would always have a President that at some level felt responsible to protect our Constitution. We never expected that anyone like Donald Trump could be elected.

Now we are seeing the chinks in the armour of our system, from the abuse of Executive power to the weakness of a Supreme court packed with biased judges that will be there for a lifetime.
