21. Laughter is not always about happiness or fun and games

Laughter is a profound thing that has many uses, especially when things get very bad. Humor is a way to stay sane. To keep from going crazy with impotent rage. To stave off depression and sadness that is too difficult to bear. It’s especially therapeutic when things feel close to despair.

I know this from personal experience. The human body and mind cannot function in perpetual fight or flight mode. Laughter is probably as much a life saver as anything else you can do. It sounds callous to an observer, but it isn’t. It’s an effective way to stay grounded within.
