Response to malaise (Reply #8)

24. Yep. I tend not to trust many of these "woke" folks.

All these ex-GOPers. All these “don’t-blame-me-I’m-an-Independent-now” people.

That’s ALWAYS in the back of my mind. Can’t get past that one. Even when some of ‘em, like Elise Jordan, Joe Scarborough, Steve Schmidt, Rick Wilson, Rick Lewis, John Podhoretz, Charlie Sykes, David Jolly, Jonathan Allen, even convincingly rehabilitated and sympathetic people like Nicolle Wallace, talk a good game.

They’ve finally seen the light. Their eyes have been opened. Awake at last. They’re redeemed and easily forgiven. And

For me, it’s a “Not So Fast, people” kind of thing. It sounds reeeeeeeeeeeaaal good right now. And I almost want to believe it. After all, 14 years of Catholic school molded my beliefs in a Jesus who preached forgiveness and said “love your enemies” leads me to fling my arms wide open and embrace them.

But something makes me hesitate. Are they really redeemed?
-Rehabilitated?
-Are they changing their world view? Or just the candidate/leader du jour?
-Have they REALLY had their eyes opened about how crappy their policy portfolio is for everybody else except for the small privileged sliver of the super rich?
-Have they REALLY seen the error of their ways?
-Have they finally realized that OUR quest is actually THE BEST way to help, uplift, and sustain for the greater good? (Btw, it’s certainly the most Christ-like. Surely all those self-proclaimed Christians have had their own “come to Jesus” revelation.)
-Will they stay this way - especially when a Democrat is back in the White House? OR perhaps they’ll act like they’re with us just til trump is gone? -Or will they hit “refresh” and go back to their old default positions of cut taxes/cut spending regardless who it’s gonna hurt?
-Will they return to their familiar comfort zones of “government BAAAAD, you’re on your own, boot yourself up by your own bootstraps, “rugged individualism” bullshit? The same old policy cliches and “trickle-down” baloney that never really worked the first time.

I cannot shake that hesitation with these folks. You REALLY want me to believe you’re turning your backs on those bad old days when you got a chance to apply your bad old - and highly unworkable AND unjust - ideas and you saw government as trying to tell you what to do rather than behaving as a force for good?

Where will you stand, after trump? Still with me after he’s out of the picture and the coast seems clear and it feels safe to go back to your cockeyed original worldview of selfishness, greed, and IGMFU (I Got Mine, F-U)?

We’ll see, won’t we!
