5. My take is that this is because Twitter stopped accepting paid political ads

The one percent would make social media into their malignant misinformation machine.

Edit...I also recall a recent court decision that barred Trump from blocking people hammering him on Twitter. He would love to be able to use Twitter as a megaphone without the entire world calling him a moron in response.

Your choice...Machiavellian or Trumpian. Doesn't really matter anyway as they both dovetail into Twitter being used as a powerful political weapon.
