In reply to the discussion: I think this virus was around in December. [View all]SunSeeker
(51,497 posts)28. Folks in Northern Italy say similar cases started popping up last November.
China has had Covid-19 cases since at least November, so it is certainly conceivable that visitors to Wuhan brought it home all over the world in November. Northern Italy has a lot of trade with Wuhan because of textiles and auto parts. Same with NY, L.A, and Detroit. Seatle has lots of tech connections with Wuhan (Seattle's first confirmed case had visited Wuhan).
Remuzzi says he is now hearing information about it from general practitioners. "They remember having seen very strange pneumonia, very severe, particularly in old people in December and even November," he says. "This means that the virus was circulating, at least in [the northern region of] Lombardy and before we were aware of this outbreak occurring in China."
