I will leave what we “should do” to our leaders. We will see what they do do if and when the time comes.

What we “will do,” I can predict.

NOTHING.

Grumble, moan, declare the end of democracy, have a couple of marches, pontificate endlessly, etc. Yes, we will do all of that, but I would place odds of 7-1 that NOTHING will change as a result.

That said, I think that Daffy Duck could beat Donald Trump in November if Daffy ran as a Democrat, so I am not terribly worried about the scenario imagined by the OP.
