I have some modest experience at playing advocatus diaboli, and it is a necessary role at times. But too often the critters who pass themselves off as journalists and wise pundits play the role of prosecutors on a cross-examination, and always against the side least culpable, while lobbing softballs at the side whose behavior is an outrage, and they do it as a feature of their business model, which requires equalizing a contest to the greatest degree possible, so they have something to cover that is exciting. Truth is not always in the middle, quite often it rests with one side or another, but these bought-out hacks cannot allow themselves that admission.

"If someone says it's raining, and somebody else says it isn't, a journalist's job isn't to report that opinions differ, but to step outside and see if he gets wet."
