In reply to the discussion: Trump 'glum and shell-shocked' as coronavirus pandemic cripples his re-election efforts [View all]Jedi Guy
(3,185 posts)In an alternate reality where the pandemic never occurred, he might very well have won re-election. Economy was doing well (on paper, if not in practice), unemployment was down, stock market was up... those are all powerful factors working in favor of an incumbent. None of them had a damn thing to do with Trump's "leadership," of course, but rightly or wrongly, the electorate credits/blames the President for the state of the economy in the moment.
With the economy in tatters and facing the worst situation since the Great Depression, and with Covid-19 running rampant due to Dolt 45's utter failure in leadership... his prospects for a second term are not good. However, they're not zero, either. Assuming that his goose is cooked and that Biden will win with ease is a bad idea, in my opinion.
