Is because they, quite literally, don’t have any reasonable defense for their ineptitude. The Obama transition team actually game-planned a pandemic scenario with the incoming Trump folks. Furthermore, this didn’t happen in Trump’s first months on the job, it happened in his third fucking year. Anything that happens that late in a presidency is on the incumbent.
