New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is a good person, but his words this week were dangerously misguided.
With America ablaze following the death of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, Brees was asked about kneeling during the national anthem. Should it come back? Thats how quarterback Colin Kaepernick wanted to raise awareness so long ago over police brutality against black people, remember? Kaepernick took a knee, and then President Donald Trump used that peaceful protest to drive a wedge deeper into our fractured society by making it about disrespecting the country, the military and veterans
...snip...
People have to realize that African Americans have been telling the truth all these years now. Now that videos are available, we see what's been happening for years and years and years.
Brees has apologized again and again for his original statement, but whats most concerning about them cant really be erased. With protesters squaring off against the U.S. military in Washington D.C., were still talking about disrespecting the flag and the country and the troops when thats not what any of this was ever about.
