Medicare is a crippled system because you can’t segregate risk pools by placing old sick people in one pool and expect it to work. That’s not how insurance works in a sane society.

The risk pool needs to be expanded to everyone and the profit motive needs to be removed. Health insurance in this country started out as not-for-profit.

For profit insurance has no incentive to keep costs down beyond their current contract period until they can boost rates. In fact, they have a reverse incentive because their cut of the pie increases.

Negotiating costs, removing profit and removing astronomical inefficiency in the system will allow this richest country on the planet to take care of our seniors like every other country.
