If the sidewalks are public, then this is indeed brandishing.

I've seen some right wingers hedge this point on Twitter. They start by saying "They WERE on their property." Then it goes to "They breached *their* gate (i.e., the couples)." The intellectually honest ones retreat to "It's a gated community, so they have a right to etc." I think this is still brandishing in a gated community, quite honestly, but I don't know the details of the law in Missouri on that.
