There is a violent element that usurps these protest in Portland. They trash, , loot, and burn. This federal building that is the focal point was trashed by rioters on the first night of the protest and it has been the focal point of "non sanctioned" protest activity that culminates into trouble every night as midnight approaches.
Some on the front line at the fences are bent on provoking the situation. The have thrown projectile at the police. Bottles, rocks, fireworks, etc. They trigger a flashpoint where the legally permitted protests become an illegal assembly. The police warn them to disperse or non-lethal deterrents will be used. The crowd refuses and the police use nonlethal deterrents. People hanging back that aren't involved in whatever triggered it get caught up in it.
I would suggest staying the f..k away from that fenced off federal building. The police clearly have to protect it and the other buildings that have been trashed.
