When 379 Indian freedom fighters were killed in a barrage of gunfire and some 1200 were injured.

Orders were given by Brigadier General Reginald Dyer ... a British officer.

However, most of the people shooting were Indians serving the British Raj.

Identifying with the aggressor is very common. In the case of Van Jones, it is probably money under the table from Russian oligarchs in addition to a narcissistic desire to be whiter than "those" black people.
