In reply to the discussion: I don't see this country healing and coming together [View all]frazzled
(18,402 posts)9. It won't happen overnight, or ever be complete
It never was. But over time, I think the loudest, ugliest voices will retreat underground to fester, and at least leave some peace in the public space. The Senate, if it remains Republican, will continue to obstruct, but I think to an ever-so slightly lesser extent, perhaps, than we saw under Obama. There are just too many critical things that need to be done for the country, and on the most critical, perhaps there will be some movement.
Just turning down the heat and excising the inflammatory language will help. If we can just get back to that place where we are adversaries, not mortal enemies, it will be an improvement.
Of course, none of this will happen if, in addition to Republican obstructionism, our own party unity falls apart.

"Healing and coming together" may honestly be more destructive than a degree of division right now

I'm not really hoping for a "healing or coming together". I will never agree with the principles

It has taken 40 years of nonstop propaganda for the Republican Party to create this division.
