He's being pretty damn naive if he thinks a GOP governor will appoint someone in his stead who will canvass with Dems.

I would say this about anyone in this case except maybe Liz Warren. Supposedly the state legislature can either choose or override the governor's appointment. GOP gov but Dem leg.

Someone here can better explain it.
