One of the great COs I served with in the Navy once said that he "hated that saying, do the right thing when no one is looking". He insisted that the correct thing was to "do the right thing when EVERYONE is looking".

Point being that the example you display enforces ethics and morality.

We expect that even a racist firefighter would run into a burning building to rescue people of a different race. That should be what society demands.

Donnie Dipshit, Retrumplicans, Hate Radio, Faux News and social media would not only excuse the racist firefighter if he decided to let people die in a burning building, they would defend and justify his act.
