so that it can't be coopted by any future administration to crack down on reasonable, non--violent dissent.

ANY response to this attempted coup, in fact anything passed from here on, has to take into account the possibility for misuse by the GOP or any other authoritarian cult.

I'd hope and expect that the ACLU and other civil liberty groups would be a part of drafting such legislation.
