(2,065 posts)To describe any worthless quack remedy. Ari Melber on MSNBC's The Beat is also guilty of this crime, when on one of his shows he showed slices of Garlic being chopped up and boiled into a tea, and called it a "homeopathic remedy". Homeopathic remedies are prepared in specially potentized microdoses, and what Ari showed was a large dose, non-homeopathic preparation of Garlic into a tea. And so, Ari was lying - the Garlic was being prepared as an herbal remedy, a tea, and NOT as a homeopathic remedy. I have personally used homeopathic remedies on occasion, and can vouch for their effectiveness. You might think that this effectiveness is totally due to psychological suggestion and the placebo effect, but this is clearly not the case. Holistic veterinarians routinely prescribe homeopathic remedies to the animals under their care, and the animals get better. And animals can't psych themselves into thinking that the remedy worked.
