I think it's significant in helping to establish the notion that there are limits to "legitimate" police force, even against BIPOC. (The fact that this even has to be debated is absurd to me, but there it is.) It remains to be seen exactly what those limits are; since this is not a federal case, it only applies as precedent in Minnesota, and only if it stands on appeal.
