Then I coupled those sorts of numbers with in effect infinite distances and an infinite timespan, and am veering to the conclusion that the prospects for contact between any populations of these lifeforms while each is extant may be vanishingly unlikely.

I'll leave it to an earthbound human genius of my generation to sum up:
