(52,163 posts)the problem is when people live in information bubbles and only get their information and advice from limited sources that only reinforce each other while ignoring or condemning conflicting view.
now, the internet and social media currently enable this behavior, but the problem existed before modern technology. arguably, the time between the original widespread adoption of television and the advent of hundreds of cable news stations marked a fairly unique time in history where people were not largely getting their news from parochial, diverse, and sometimes fringe sources.
more specifically, our problem today is the right-wing cult, where people adamantly refuse to even consider logic and reason and actual facts. the fill their brains with foxnews and similar, confirming sources, all of which tell them that anyone who disagrees is unpatriotic and evil.
