6. Putin declared cyber warfare on the US and the EU years ago.

We are in a different kind of war, but it is definitely war. The question is what our government and allies are doing about it. I suspect Trump tried to decimate our capabilities in this area, which means the Biden administration may be rebuilding. We need the best minds in the country on this. The form of media is different, but these disinformation campaigns are no different than Hitler’s use of propaganda and the burning of books to turn people against fellow citizens.

Disinformation spread by the Republican Party since Nixon have created much of the divide we see here. Russian disinformation played a big part in dividing UK citizens and helping separate the UK from the EU. Putin’s threats on Ukraine seem like an attempt to separate Germany from the EU over their reliance on Russian gas. Russia may not have the economic advantages of the West, but he is a master at creating disruption. Anyone who thinks he is not our enemy is a fool.
