2. Why can't they tell people to take shoes to their safe space?

In the event that they are actually hit by a tornado, there is no way to safely get away without shoes.

The ground and floor around them will be covered with broken glass, nails, sharp pieces of twisted metal, leaking fluids of every description, huge wood splinters, etc.

Please, people…take sturdy shoes to your safe place!
