24. Ahh, yes.

I happen to be a cat person but it's much the same.

My current cat came from the local shelter as a stray, so they didn't know much about her. When I brought her home she exhibited a number of behaviors that convince me her first human home was with large dogs and men. She had a way of sprawling on the floor that was a lot like what large dogs do. Plus, even though she tolerated me, a female, any time men showed up for whatever reason, she clearly preferred them and wanted to be with them. In many ways I was not the right human to adopt her, and for the first six months I seriously considered re-homing her. In time I recognized that I'd made a commitment and promise to her that I needed to keep. So I decided to accept and love her, and it's been good. My only regret at this point is that she's not a lap cat. I cannot get her on my lap, darn. Some nights she sleeps on the bed with me, but most nights she's elsewhere. Oh, well.
