6. My Grandmother, at age 99, was living in Homestead in the house her Carpenter husband

had built in the 1930s. It, and she came through it fine, but the destruction from Kendall to Florida City was amazing. I moved down there about a week after the storm as part of a construction team, and stayed for three years. I lived in Florida all my life, and have been through about a dozen hurricanes, but I never saw such widespread destruction. It was as if a 30 mile wide tornado hit the area.

It is hard to believe that it was 30 years ago.
