Rich people can afford better lawyers and to pay them to research and exercise every legal right available to them.

Less ethical lawyers will also create difficulties for the other side by making many dubious motions designed more to waste time and drive up expenses more than anything else. Again, rich people can afford to pay them to do so.

Worse, rich people can routinely force the other side to pay those costs. Donnie routinely refused to pay, or underpaid, his contractors. This forced them to either accept getting screwed, or pay lawyers to fight Donnie's team of delaying lawyers, knowing it will be expensive with no certain result.

The only solution I can think of would be to make all lawyers government employees and randomly assign them to cases. Not that that would ever happen, and it would probably be a disaster for other reasons.
