General Discussion
In reply to the discussion: It appears the reason I don't like Alex Wagner... [View all]I've heard men do the same thing and after awhile it is difficult to listen to. It sounds pretentious and condescending and reminds me of William F. Buckley years ago. I remember my husband unconsciously imitating Buckley after watching him on TV. As soon as I pointed it out, he quit, though he occasionally did it over the years when he was talking down to people.
In the 1970s, we had a friend who taught at Northwestern and one evening he started talking like that. As soon as we pointed it out to him, he laughed and blamed it on the "snobs" he hung out with at school. Once he was conscious of it, he made an effort not to do it again.
