Local Teabaggers Prove Their Own Stupidity AGAIN [View all]

Last edited Thu Nov 8, 2012, 01:32 PM - Edit history (1)

I was watching the local news late last night, and there was a story about a local bond levy issue that had failed. This bond levy was on the ballot in one of the more affluent areas/counties around, and was a $7.5 million measure in order to fund local fire departments. As spokespeople for the fire departments said, this increase was NOT to fund raises for firefighters (perish the thought!), but was simply to enable the firehouses to operate at STATUS QUO.

Well, all the good-hearted "job creators" (aka rich people and teabaggers) showed up and voted down the bond measure. So what will be the result? Mass firefighter layoffs, huge delays in fire response times, and outright CLOSURE of many firehouses in the community. This bond would have raised the taxes of the people in this community a couple of bucks. Less than most of these people would spend on a single DINNER. But we live in "all taxes are bad" land, and it failed.

But here's the kicker: karma's a mean, nasty bitch. Now that fire response times will be slowed considerably, guess what happens when Daddy Warbucks comes home and finds his mansion on fire. Better get those garden hoses ready, "rugged individualists." And even better, for the people who live in the areas serviced by the firehouses that are now being closed, and who now will have NO fire protection whatsoever? Their homeowner's insurance policies will shoot their premiums through the roof, making the money they now have to spend on homeowner's insurance EXPONENTIALLY more than they would have paid for this puny bond measure.

Gotta love how those teabaggers always think everything through to its logical conclusion.
