ignoring incompatible information sources and seeking out people who share their beliefs, and they tend to lose even basic factual information that doesn't make its way into their dialog.

Poor things. Seriously.

I thank all the random forces that saved me from that at least (tendencies to both left and right extremism in first- and second-degree relatives, and we're a small family). Twin studies are showing that perhaps 40-60% of personality traits are genetically linked.

If it came to it and environment didn't do a better job of breaking through with facts, some of these people would likely still believe PA's Democratic governor "overset democracy" by appointing a replacement when they're drooling in their walkers.
