But NY has an outstanding record in pursuing cases about campaign finance like this. Their laws about what campaigns can be gone after and why are robust, and broad. It's my understanding that they can indeed go after people running for federal office if they committed crimes related to that campaign in NY.

As an example, if a federal candidate used a bank in NY to funnel illegal contributions to his campaign, then the candidate can be tried under NY law for that crime, despite how he isn't running for state office. He's committed a finance crime in that state, and can be charged for it, if caught.

If I have this wrong, I beg of any lawyers out there to correct me, but that's what I read elsewhere.
