8. I don't understand why there has to be sustained enthusiasm.

Voting is an obligation and a privilege.

I remember people not getting enthusiastic about Gore or Kerry, or claiming they ran bad campaigns, but they both would have made excellent presidents and we wouldn't be in this Roe.v. Wade pickle if people had just done their job as voters. But they didn't because they weren't excited enough by these very qualified candidates. It really makes me angry that neither was elected even though they represented the values of more Americans than Bush did. It's not the Super Bowl where you have a team and run out and buy a jersey and wave pompoms around. It's our lives at stake and now maybe our democracy.
