(68,878 posts)We know that there are evil people, sociopaths, psychopaths, etc.
They make up only about 1-3% of the population.
But these people constitute at least one third to one half of all American leadership.
The biggest question is why the American people idolize them and make them their leaders.
Why are people so easily manipulated to work against their own interests and to destroy
their lives and country.
There is plenty of cult member research about their need for a strong leader to fill
in some missing pieces in their psyche. And about politicians appealing to the dark side of
human nature, and creating chaos and fear to get votes.
But the fact what we are seeing is so widespread, so many Americans and indeed educated
people, attorneys, politicians, leaders who also are willing to destroy our democracy is going
to be studied far into the future.
Steve Schmidt calls it the greatest moral collapse in American history and greatest failure
in terms of civic duty.
