is asking for both Israel and Ukraine cannot be acted on without a speaker and in a matter of weeks the government will shut down and avoiding that cannot be done without a speaker. Many/most R's may be fine with both those outcomes. This may necessitate a tough decision at some point by the D's. Letting the R's flounder has significant immediate international consequences (as in days, not weeks) while in a handful of weeks the government will shut down.
Again, many R's are fine with both outcomes. The question is will D's also be?
(I am not saying the D's should be in this position, just that when dealing with functional toddlers someone has to be the grownup in the room)

Republicans are dangerous idiots who cannot legislate, nor lead, nor constructively engage in governance of any kind.
