'Uncommitted' [View all]

Matt McDermott @mattmfm
Yesterday, Joe Biden won 443,674 more votes than Obama did in the 2012 primary.

Meanwhile, Uncommitted won just 80,127 more votes than it did in the 2012 primary.

Yet this is how Politico reports it. Yes, our media institutions are fundamentally broken.

Turnout in the Democratic primary was 4-5x higher this year than in was in 2012 due to better voter access laws. So yes, the number of raw votes for Uncommitted is up 4-5x but so is the number of raw voters for Biden.

This is not a story, folks!

Morning after Michigan thread: - Biden wins big, breaks 80%, uncommitted at a very modest 13%. Opposition to Biden foreign policy limited, but intense. - Trump underperforms public polling again, 4th state in a row. Trump/RNC are struggling.

For Dems, big takeaway - there just isn't a big backlash in party against Biden's handling of Israel-Hamas:
- Uncommitted got 11% vs Obama in 2012, 13% vs Biden
- In Econ/YouGov Dems approve of Biden for pol 71-21, 18-29s year olds give good marks

Previous Michigan Dem primaries: 2012 "uncommitted": 20,833 votes 2016 "uncommitted": 21,601 votes 2020 "uncommitted": 19,106 votes They literally have 20K uncommitted every presidential election year

Biden is beating Dean by 76 points
Uncommitted by 64 points

Trump is beating Haley by 35 points

Media narrative: "Biden is having problems with Michigan Democrats"

Unfucking Real

Christopher Hale @chrisjollyhale
Biden won by 75 points. Trump won by 35 points.

Yet here is how the New York Times frames it.

Brett Meiselas @BMeiselas
Uncommitted is now down to 13.5% (and lower).
Ultimately that will be a wash with the Obama 2012 numbers. A VERY strong night for Biden who is over 80% and rising, once again smacking down the media narratives.

12.7% now…

Biden did better in the Michigan primary against his opponents than Trump did in the Michigan primary against his opponent.

Biden overperformed. Trump underperformed. That's what the numbers show.

Michigan primary results:

In 2020, Joe Biden got 52.9%
In 2024, Joe Biden got 80.1%

So, why is Donald Trump “crushing it” with 66% of the vote, but Biden is “deeply unpopular” with 82% of the vote?

The results from the Michigan primary last night are in, and it wasn't close: President Biden cruised to a commanding win with 80% support vs 13% "uncommitted." trump, meanwhile, struggled to 68%, with 30% of Republicans voting AGAINST him. GOP is in disarray. DEMs ARE UNITED

The % uncommitted will be around the historical average AND that 12-13% will be a large number of votes. The Biden admin is trying to work on a ceasefire. We have to start looking at things from a “both/and” perspective and not a dichotomous “ethier/or.” A macro lens is needed.

Dear Muslim friends: I know that Biden has disappointed you but trump wants to deport you.

It would be wise for Biden to acknowledge the Uncommitted as a protest vote & that he is working to address the concern. dutch777 Feb 28 #7
