Same thing happened to someone I knew. It was kinda comical. "Mom, dad. I'm in Juarez"..."What are you doing there?"
Back then, it was "round ups" and the deportation was not a legal proceeding. They just saw the guy. He had an accent and was working with a yard crew up in Austin. He also had a lot of sun exposure that summer from his gardening job. (He was a college student and it was a summer job) So they rounded them up and turned them lose in Juarez. Legally they were not deported, but CBP knew it would be harder for them to return if they were not a US citizen. And if they were a US citizen, they would find their way home. It was the 80's.
He's not gonna deport 1/5 of the population of the US. (Latinos are 1/5 of the US population)
